Giethoorn Satu – Satu nya Desa Tanpa Jalan di Dunia
Desa ini bernama giethoorn atau biasa disebut juga venesia dari belanda berjarak sekitar 7,5 km dari kanal dijalankan melalui desa kecil. Sekitar 50 jembatan kayu kecil ada didesa itu.
Desa ini di dirikan sekitar 1230 oleh pelarian yang berasal dari daerah mediterranian yang menetap di sana. Mereka menemukan banyak tanduk kambing liar yang ada mungkin telah tewas dalam banjir besar st elisabeth pa da tahun1170, dan karena itu mereka disebut desa geytenhorn (desa tanduk kambing), kemudian menjadi geythorn dan sekarang itu disebut giethoorn.
Semua lalu lintas menggunakan jalur perairan, perahu-perahu dayung dan perahu bermotor dengan suara yang pelan karena menggunakan sebuah motor listrik, sehingga praktis tidak mengganggu kedamaian dan ketenangan di desa yang indah ini. Kanal hanya sekitar 1 meter mendalam dan menggali keluar untuk mengangkut gambut, penggalian gambut ini mengakibatkan banyak kolam-kolam kecil dan danau yang dangkal, disebut ‘wieden’.
Banyak rumah telah dibangun di pulau-pulau dan hanya dapat dijangkau melalui jembatan kayu. Kebanyakan rumah memiliki atap jerami, daerah berawa memberikan banyak buluh. Pada hari pertama hanya orang kaya memiliki atap genting, untuk ubin jauh lebih mahal daripada buluh, sekarang sebaliknya: Memiliki atap jerami biaya lebih banyak uang daripada harus tertutup dengan ubin. Ini adalah tempat yang sangat indah untuk dikunjungi.
