Ayo.. Mulai sekarang, Kurangi Sampah Rumah Tangga!
Peningkatan jumlah sampah di Indonesia, khususnya di Jakarta, semakin meningkat dari tahun ke tahun. Jumlah sampah terbesar berasal dari sampah rumah tangga, yang mencapai 6.500 ton dalam setahun. Kebiasaan kita mengonsumsi makanan ringan seperti snack, permen, atau minuman kemasan kotak atau kaleng, ternyata juga menyumbang jumlah sampah di Indonesia.
Sayangnya, kurangnya kesadaran akan kondisi sampah yang memprihatinkan tersebut membuat kita seakan tidak mau tahu apa yang terjadi akibat kebiasaan kita. Hal inilah yang membuat para pecinta lingkungan semakin gencar melakukan sederetan kegiatan yang dapat meminimalisasi peningkatan angka tersebut. Bagaimana caranya?
Lions Club Indonesia Distrik 307 A1, melalui Komite Pelestarian Lingkungan Hidup, memilih untuk lebih giat mengajarkan kepada para perempuan Indonesia cara menanggulangi sampah rumah tangga. Peran perempuan dianggap sangat penting, karena umumnya perempuan adalah pemegang kendali dalam urusan rumah tangga. Hal ini bukan berarti perempuan merupakan satu-satunya penyebab bertambahnya sampah rumah tangga. Setelah para perempuan mulai aktif menanggulangi sampah rumah tangga, diharapkan mereka dapat menularkan kebiasaan baik tersebut pada anggota keluarga lainnya.
Mulai Agustus 2011, komite ini mulai membuat dua program penyelamatan lingkungan hidup, yaitu penanggulangan sampah rumah tangga melalui pembuatan kompos dari sampah rumah tangga, pembuatan lubang biopori. Pembuatan kompos dapat mengurangi sampah rumah tangga, dimana hasilnya pun berguna untuk memupuk tanaman. Sedangkan lubang biopori digunakan untuk menimbun sampah organik, sehingga membuat tanah menjadi subur dan menjadi resapan air yang baik.
Clean, Green, Growth, yang disingkat menjadi CG2, adalah tujuan dari beberapa program pelestarian lingkungan yang telah dirancang oleh istri Gubernur DKI Fauzi Bowo, Tati Fauzi Bowo, untuk program Lions Club Indonesia. Tati antara lain telah menyusun program berupa pisah-pilah olah sampah, penambahan tanaman produktif, serta penghijauan lingkungan, dalam kontribusinya untuk membuat lebih hijau Kota Jakarta ini.
Program ini tentunya tidak akan berhasil jika tidak didukung oleh partisipasi dari masyarakat luas.
Dengan tetap terfokus pada perempuan, diharapkan perempuan Indonesia dapat lebih sadar dan peduli terhadap program pengolahan sampah. Apalagi, sampah sebenarnya memiliki nilai ekonomis, dimana para perempuan yang telah berhasil mendaur ulang sampah dapat mengubahnya menjadi seperti tas, dompet, dan aksesori lain. Kelak, hasil daur ulang sampah ini juga dapat memperluas lapangan pekerjaan serta meningkatkan kesejahteraan warga.
